继为阿尔法唱片推出那张以其美国音乐根源为主题、令人心驰神往的专辑（编号 Alpha1071）后，钢琴家珂莱・黄慈此次将目光聚焦女性作曲家，她坦言：“这些女性曾面对的现实，对于如今业内的任何一位女性而言，都难以想象。”克拉拉・维克（1840年与罗伯特・舒曼成婚後随夫姓）育有八个子女，却是家中的主要经济支柱，常年辗转于巡演之路。范妮・亨塞尔的创作大多在私下进行，其作品常以弟弟的名义发表。埃米・比奇的艺术生涯在婚姻期间几近中断，直至丈夫离世，她才重返舞台。弗洛伦斯・普莱斯同时遭遇种族与性别歧视，后来还独自抚养两个孩子。数个世纪以来，正是因为有黄慈这样的音乐家，这些女性的声音才得以被我们听见：“在她们的音乐里，我们听到的不只是历史，更是蜕变与新生。这张《钢琴女杰》，是我对她们的回应——也是让我的声音，与她们的声音相融。”
